Pub stop on the road run at the TR Drivers Club National Weekend in Northants.

The Gold DHC is now sporting Mimilite replica wheels, which give a smoother ride. The previous MGF wheels with Avon low profiles proved a bit too harsh on the rough Norfolk lanes, especially after a back operation.

Sorted, cleaned, ready for MOT.

Home after the HCR.

Classic Car Mart Pages.

Gill got a couple of copys of Classic Car Mart recently from her photoshoot and twin test up against a Fiat X/19. Was a reasonable article, showed the TR7 FHC in quite good light, especially as a cheap, reliable runner, with all parts affordable, although IMO the author was a little biased towards mid engined classic sportscars and reckoned the X/19 had the edge in handling due to mid engine layout. All this from a 5 minute drive! I am hard pushed to think of any other mid engined sportscars from mid 70's to 81. The X/19 she was up against was the later (about 8 years younger) Bertone model.
Oh, and they inserted wrong picture of interior in TR7 column!
I made sure TR Drivers Club and Club Triumph got a website mention in article.
In next months Classic Car Mart is a Herald v Vittesse twin test.

My interest with Triumph TR7's began in 1976 when I was a motor rally fan. I attended the RAC Rally in Yorkshire, one stage I watched was held at Harewood House, near Leeds on the Hill Climb course. A new car to the rally was the British Leyland Triumph TR7 driven by Tony Pond, which stood out from the usual procession of Mk11 Escorts, in white and blue the car looked futuristic and spectacular, this car had the Dolomite Sprint 16 Valve 2 Litre Engine and from the outset seemed well matched to the Escorts. I followed rallying for years, always supporting the TR7 V8 of the much under estimated Tony Pond.

Unfortunately, I could not own a TR7 at the time, as a new car was out of my reach. The nearest I ever got was a clapped out Mimosa Yellow Dolly Sprint, with a warped head that liked to mix oil and water.

I eventually got around to owning a TR7 when I bought a V reg convertible in 2000, intention been to do a quick repair and MOT. Unfortunately, as closer investigation revealed, I had been stitched up by a very good botch job, it had even fooled my motor trade friend who I took along for advice, complete with magnets and various poking items. This was followed by a 2 ltr FHC which I also restored, and a 2 ltr FHC Auto, which was used by the wife whilst the Blue FHC was being restored, and then sold.

Engine bay of the DHC, well worth the effort.
