The Gold DHC is now sporting Mimilite replica wheels, which give a smoother ride. The previous MGF wheels with Avon low profiles proved a bit too harsh on the rough Norfolk lanes, especially after a back operation.
Gill got a couple of copys of Classic Car Mart recently from her photoshoot and twin test up against a Fiat X/19. Was a reasonable article, showed the TR7 FHC in quite good light, especially as a cheap, reliable runner, with all parts affordable, although IMO the author was a little biased towards mid engined classic sportscars and reckoned the X/19 had the edge in handling due to mid engine layout. All this from a 5 minute drive! I am hard pushed to think of any other mid engined sportscars from mid 70's to 81. The X/19 she was up against was the later (about 8 years younger) Bertone model.

My interest with Triumph TR7's began in 1976 when I was a motor rally fan. I attended the RAC Rally in Yorkshire, one stage I watched was held at Harewood House, near Leeds on the Hill Climb course. A new car to the rally was the British Leyland Triumph TR7 driven by Tony Pond, which stood out from the usual procession of Mk11 Escorts, in white and blue the car looked futuristic and spectacular, this car had the Dolomite Sprint 16 Valve 2 Litre Engine and from the outset seemed well matched to the Escorts. I followed rallying for years, always supporting the TR7 V8 of the much under estimated Tony Pond. To see the rally history of the TR7 click on the link TR7 Rally History Unfortunately, I could not own a TR7 at the time, as a new car was out of my reach. The nearest I ever got was a clapped out Mimosa Yellow Dolly Sprint, with a warped head that liked to mix oil and water. Engine bay of the DHC, well worth the effort.
